I have been feeling so good and free and nonchalant. It has been such a long time since I exhibited any kind of disordered behaviors. I eat normal meals and even decadent treats without feeling guilty for the first time in ten years.
But then, it hits me like a ton of bricks. I feel so insanely large and uncomfortable in my own skin. Undeserving of the beautiful love of my fiancé. Unworthy of this wedding celebration in two months. Who wants to look at a fat girl in a white dress? The whole idea of standing in front of even just my small handful of people and having them look at my gluttonous body makes me want to cry.
Why must these thoughts continue to haunt me? Rationally, I full well know that my worth as a person is not inversely proportions to my mass. So why is it so easy for my to convince myself it's true?
I am tired of wavering between satisfaction and disgust... with my clothes not fitting... with crying over a candid photograph.
And yet, I know this is essentially all in my head. My body is a clinically healthy size that is capable of great things, but I wish it could be capable of those things while taking up significantly less space. I continue to delude myself that shrinking will make my problems disappear... When we all know that's not true.
We all deserve health and happiness, even you... even me... but how do we get there? Healthy minds and healthy bodies, indefinitely?
And I thought it couldn't get worse

Sarah,
This email is to ask that you please move on and no longer contact me. I have rekindled my relationship with Sandra, and my energy and focus is in my relationship with her. Please respect my decision. There is no need to reply to this email.
Thanks,
Juan
Oh, and he cc'ed her. Her, as in his ex girlfriend who he was still with when we hooked up. The girl who he cheated on WITH ME.
fuck.

So, I have returned from my short trip to France.
There really isn't very much to say, other than the trip was so incredibly sad in a way that I cannot describe with the words I know.
My heart is permanently broken. I have lost the two great loves of my life this year.
Hopefully with a little time, I'll feel more of a desire to write and let my feelings out here, but for now, I just... I can't...
Thank you all for your kind comments, emails, messages on Facebook, thoughts, and prayers. I know that some of you have had the unfortunate experience of losing someone very close to you and can relate to my intense sadness.
I forgot about the blog I tried to keep about all of the things I love about France. There are only a few posts, and most are totally irrelevant, but I wrote a lovely account of the summer I met her, here.
For those of you who might want to read what I wrote to my darling Popi, here is the letter I read and buried with her...

My Honey,
Do you remember that bright summer day seven years ago when we first met? I was incredibly nervous as we drove to the airport, and I cannot even imagine how you must have felt sitting on that plane about to embark on such a grand adventure with complete strangers. My mother always says that we sat in the back seat of our car and did not stop talking for a second the entire ride home. The funny thing is, that day is the perfect illustration for how quickly our unbreakable bond formed and why I will never have another friend like you.
Even though I have only had the privilege of seeing you every few years, whenever we are together, our sisterly bond reignites immediately, and I wonder how I was getting on, all that time, without you by my side. I have never known someone with whom I felt so instantly comfortable and secure. You are the only one I trust with my innermost dreams, knowing you will guard them and keep them safe. Pauline, you have brought so much joy into my life with your humor, kindness, and generosity. What will I do without you?
As your friend, I promise to hold on desperately to the many memories we have together, both significant and silly. The parties, Christmases, and birthdays, young love, so many shared delicious meals and glasses of wine, road trips, inside jokes, singing songs at the top of our lungs, trying to learn Spanish in the car, writing letters and sending packages, Skyping from every corner of the United States and Europe, and lots of laughter, tears, hugs, and kisses. Through all of it, I know that our hearts and souls are forever tied together – something that will not cease even though you have left us.
As your friend, I promise to continue to love and support your amazing family and friends, who have so graciously accepted me into their fold. I will make your parents and grandparents proud. I will treat Guillaume and Mathilde as my own brother and sister, and try my best to guide them and support them as they grow as young adults. I will reminisce with Benjamin about the wonderful times we shared with you. I will support Marmotte, Kevin, Nem, Anne-So, Ceclie and the rest of our friends as they grieve, and make sure we all honor your life by exemplifying your love of life and adventurous spirit.
I hope you know how truly loved you are, Pauline. You will be indescribably missed by every person whose life you managed to touch in your 24 years. While we will be filled with a deep sorrow for the rest of our days, I know that even now you would want us to look back on your life and smile.
I love you more than you can even comprehend, my sister from across the ocean, juste en face de New York,
Je t’aime toujours,
Sarah
Je t’aime toujours,
Sarah

Nothing to say

I have not written in about ten days now because I honestly have nothing worthwhile to say.
My weight stable between 137-138 and not going down. I know that is my fault, so hopefully with the end of this week being incredibly busy, I will be able to lose even just a pound.
The hurricane did not have much effect here where I live - though my parents got slammed. Everything was closed for Monday and Tuesday, so it was nice to catch up on knitting and spend time with my roommates. I did manage to get in a good 4.5 mile run this evening. The first decent run I have been on since the marathon, and only now, a few hours later, is my foot aching.
Still incredibly sad about Juan. I wrote him a letter, but I am not sure if I will mail it. Perhaps sticking it in a drawer will be enough. If anyone wants to read it, I typed it up after writing, so I could post it here.
No one has purchased anything from my Etsy store yet, but I am confident it will happen soon. In fact, I am ordering some yarn for Claire, so I can list a vegan (non wool/alpaca/silk) cowl especially for her. And, I am going to knit up a pretty, warm black one for Lulu, since I know she's been freezing at work - which is a little funny to this northerner, since she lives in toasty Miami :)
I bought myself a few presents lately, mainly to try and fill the Juan void. The first was a great pair of gently used boots on eBay. While I maintain a vegan diet, one of my biggest motivations for maintaining a vegan lifestyle is for the environment. Thus, I am not morally opposed to buying used leather goods in some instances as the impact of leather on the earth is far less than petroleum products. If I can find a cruelty-free alternative, I am fine with that. Alas, non-leather boots (cloth or "pleather") just do not hold up to wintry wear and tear. These are a great pair and I even weather-proofed them, so they can get me through the winter. Then, I had a bit of a splurge and decided I need a vacation. I still have a few good friends in San Diego, so I decided to take a long weekend to SD in January. The tickets were under $400, which is pretty reasonable, especially just after the holidays. It was a bit out of my normal budget, but I will spread it over two or three months on my credit card and soak up all of the sunshine I can while I am there to make it worth while. Finally, I have been thinking I should replace the jewelry that Juan gave me. I have two rings from Etsy and a lovely Tiffany's necklace. Lest you think I am a) made of money or b) totally crazy with no sense of finances, I did not replace all at once. I bought a lovely handcrafted necklace that I can wear every day and never feel the need to replace. It will be just like the one in the photo, except with a tiny rough sapphire (my birth stone). It is a bit extravagant, purchasing all of that on top of my normal expenses, but maybe it will make me feel better.
Sometime in the near-ish future, I hope to replace my perfume too. I am thinking of selling my nearly-full bottle of D&G La Lune and replacing it with Hermes Eau Claire des Merveilles. Truthfully, I love the perfume I wear, but Juan gave me my last bottle as a gift, and I know its the perfume he loves. Maybe changing would be good, right? The Eau Claire is a bit sophisticated and luxurious smelling, but still youthful. Unfortunately, it is also more expensive, and I absolutely cannot justify it right now. Especially not with Christmas around the corner and my Etsy store having not sold a thing. So for now, I will just get a little sample of it each time I browse a Sephora.
Goodness, I hope that doesn't sound like I am trying to brag about what I purchased. That is not my intention, I simply do not have much else happening in my life except packages arriving in the mail every so often.
Anyway, things are sort of quiet here. My heart is very hurt and lonely and in the back of my mind I have this kernel of hope that is wishing for him to call. I do understand that he is finished. Really, I do. It is just very hard. I know that all that I am is not tied to him, but I feel kind of like nothing - not pretty or desirable or kind enough or smart enough or whatever...

Hanging in there
Thanks for the love, ladies.
Still just incredibly sad about Juan. Trying to stay distracted.
Losing a little at a time, but I still can't run. I ran yesterday morning and the tendonitis in my feet is back (left arch, right out-step). Down to 137.5ish but it should have been 127.5ish ages ago.
I just ate a cupcake for lunch. Do not even try to ask me how I rationalized that.
Coffee and a salad today, maybe yoga later to de-stress.
Sorry for being absent, I'm just moping.

It's amazing that I gain any followers that this point. My posting is only about once a week, at best, so I appreciate anyway who is bothering to join in and read.
I wish that as I was gaining followers, I was losing pounds.
Hit a new high today and I am absolutely disgusted/embarrassed.
Luckily, I can survive on two small meals, fruit, and coffee today.
This is a totally scatterbrained post...
I ran 19 miles on Sunday, which went relatively well. I'm about to get my tush out the door right now for six, tomorrow is nine, and I forget what I have planned for the rest of the week.
Congratulations to Lulu on her new job!
Seriously, I apologize for this random stream of consciousness.
School started yesterday and I am already exhausted. Today, I work from 9-2, go straight to campus to do more work with my professor all afternoon, and then class from 7:20-10.
Maybe, being so busy and relatively broke, will help me eat significantly less (since that is the only thing that will help me at this point)...
Hope everyone is well (or at least better than I am).

I found out on Friday night that Juan is coming to visit me next week. He arrives Monday the eleventh. Saying I am shocked and nervous is the understatement of the century.
My friend is still missing, more than six weeks have gone by.
I have been running a bit, but not enough.
My weight is still out of control. I was steady at 135 yesterday but then I had Korean noodles for dinner, which I thought were rice but turned out to be wheat. My tummy is all swollen today. Definitely plan to hydrate, not eat, and go for a stress-shaking run.
P.S. It's national (international?) running day, so lace up!
P.P.S. Many thanks for continuing to read and comment, dear friends. I'll update you next week.
Playing catch-up

Not sure if anyone is really wondering what's going on around here, but I figured I should leave a little update since it has been weeks since I last posted.
The most important thing is that my friend Pauline is still missing. It was been over four weeks since she disappeared. The police and her family are still searching, but since I am far away, I am not really privy to all of the details. Please pray that she will return to her family soon.
School is finally finished up for the semester. I am not really sure how I survived finals week(s), but by some miracle I did and held on to my 4.0.
I have been working quite a bit - babysitting, the law firm, the yarn store, and then I am starting back at my research assistantship this week or next.
I am also knitting up a storm. I finished a lace hoodie last week that is so cute. When I finally get around to taking some photos, I'll get them up here. I am working on wedding presents, a birthday gift for my grandmother, a scarf for a customer, a hat for a friend, and a present for Lulu's daughter, among backlogged projects for Jeanne and Peri.
Just before Pauline went missing, Juan told me that we should stop talking. But when she disappeared, I really needed him. We have been communicating a lot, but I am sure nothing will come of it. He is in Las Vegas for the holiday weekend with his guy friends from high school. I know they are just drinking and gambling and blowing cash, but he has been texting me a lot. Friday night I was at a party that my roommate threw at my house and drank quite a bit (for the first time in more than a year) - we were texting the whole time. I said "te amo"- and he said "te amo" back. Probably means nothing because he was drunk. I guess I will see.
My weight has been up lately, steadily about 135. I am much more at ease at 130, and considering I really want to be somewhere between 118-124, I feel huge. I have not been running much, but I went yesterday and will get back into it when I get accustomed to my new summer schedule. And, I recently bought a piece of furniture, so I am not allowing myself to go grocery shopping for at least another week or two. My fridge is currently a desolate wasteland, which is great for my waistline.
The life is still kind of chaotic - sometimes I feel like I am not really living it, but its just happening. I don't even know how to explain it well. Nothing really seems to matter because my friend is missing.
To those of you who have left kind references/links to me over the past few weeks (Isobel and Impractical Shopper over at Je suis jalouse), it really does make me smile to know someone is thinking of me.

Finally my weight is going in the right direction.
As promised, I went for a run to support Isobel yesterday.
132.8 this morning, I guess skipping a few meals pays off sometimes.
122.8 would be so much better.
I received some VERY bad news about my school funding this week - not really sure what to do. It's really the last thing I needed right now. When I finally get my head wrapped around some sort of plan, I promise to write about it. If I was over the edge the other day when I posted, I think I just fell off the cliff.
I have lunch with a friend scheduled for today, but I picked the place and they have a ton of great salads, which is the only food I never feel guilty about eating. I had a two slices of rice toast (well, one slice and the nub of the loaf) for breakfast and now I am sipping my coffee. Lunch will be salad, then I plan to make more coffee and let that get me through the evening. When I get home from work at five, I am going to squeeze in a run before I go to class at 7:20.
I want to put my life on pause for a while. I cannot handle all of this right now.
The best thing in my life is that working at the yarn shop, I can get a lot of knitting done, and I am finished with the front, back, and half of the sleeves for a sweater. I then have a ton of other things on my queue... including some treats to send overseas to South Africa and New Zealand (you know who you are!)... Northern hemisphere-ers, you can wait a few months.
Anyone want to send me money for a plane ticket so I can just drop my life for a while and come visit you? Oh, and that would also include you adopting me temporarily, at least...
And of course, in my infinite wisdom, I texted Juan on Monday when I heard my bad news. I hate this. I miss him so much.

Embarrassing
The scale tipped at 136.8 this morning. How did I let this happen?
Sticking to coffee today, it will help me get rid of any excess water that might account for such a horrific gain.
Time to start my food journal again, or I'll just keep gaining.
I have tried to explain to people that I cannot NOT pay attention to what I eat - I look at a cookie and gain weight. I know the gain is my fault, but its still unbelievable.
Barely ran last week after the race. Planning to go for a short run when I get home from work this afternoon, before I go to class.
Its amazing how just a number can make you cry and ruin your whole day before its begun, isn't it?

The energy to write has been totally escaping me as of late - in fact, the energy to do much else but school work (of which I am obligated) and sleep and eat has been about all there is.
I spent the weekend with my brother in Seattle. I had a truly lovely time, ate without worrying about being judges or having immense thoughts of self-loathing. My brother is also a vegan, and he treated me all weekend - sushi, lots of yummy soy lattes, lunch in a Rastafari cafe, dinner a fancy vegan bistro in Downtown Seattle, strudel in a sweet Scandanavian settlement town, and other tasty things. We wandered through a zoo, rode the ferry, traipsed all over Seattle and several quaint bay-side island towns and laughed a lot. I am pretty close with my younger brother and I miss him a lot now that he is across the country. It was a good weekend, but rather than returning refreshed and relaxed, I just feel awful now.
I was hoping Juan would make it to the airport on Friday during my layover. We talked on Friday morning, and classic Juan, he waited until Friday to realize he truly wanted to come and by the time it was "too late" for him to get off work. I know in my heart that if her really, really wanted to see me, he could have called in sick. Or better yet, he could have flown to Virginia sometime in the past six weeks to see me. I am completely delusional when it comes to holding out with a glimmer of hope.
But, as I may have mentioned, he is still holding my belongings hostage. Again, these are not things to which I attach any sentimental value, but I mailed him his stuff the week we broke up, and these things belong to ME. So, in a moment of desperation the other night, I sent one of his younger sisters, who I have never met, a message on Facebook, purely with the hope that she could influence him enough to get him to send the package. He has been ignoring about 80% of my attempts to contact him, so I was at a loss of what to do. I figured mentioning to his sister would be less embarrassing than having my dad call him. I finally got Juan on the phone yesterday afternoon to tell him that I had messaged his sister and he totally lost it. He was so angry - and next to nothing raises emotion at him, so I know he was truly upset with me. I guess he just thought it was totally out of line and does not want his family involved. Its strange because we were together for so long and I always felt he might be embarrassed of me, and that why I had only met him mom and never any of his siblings or dad. He initially just kept saying, "Are you kidding me?" and then hung up. I called him back, tearful as always, and told him that I had no idea what else to do, since it has been so long and he always ignores me. He said I needed to be patient. I told him that I did not recognize this person who just does what he wants without any accountability and no regard to my feelings, especially after having claimed to love me for so long. He just said he can do what he wants. I told him he would be alone if he lived his life like that, and he said that was fine. Absolutely unbelievable. I cried for a few minutes and ended up a few minutes late to work. I cried at my desk for a bit when my boss was away from her office.
Last night, I wallowed depressed as ever, ate ice cream and cried and wasted my whole night, not doing any schoolwork whatsoever.
Today has been similar, I slept in really late and have been completely unproductive. I have eaten WAY too much than is necessary even for a normal person, and given my sedentary day, it is completely inexcusable. Finally, I am not in the least bit hungry, I just feel empty and sad, so I am not eating anything for dinner and I think I am going to just stay locked away instead of going to the party my roommates are throwing upstairs.
The most incredible thing is that when I started this blog, so many months ago - back in 2010 - it was several months after Juan and I had broken up initially and I basically felt like I do now. I felt directionless and sad - the only thing I was sure of was going to work each day (for now I have replaced that we school and schoolwork and another job/possibly two). I have no idea where my life is going. I am not one of those wildly independent, strong people, who can live life companionless. I need someone by my side, in my corner, not to necessarily help me with every little thing, but to know that I have a strong foundation that will never shake. Instead, the man who said I was his everything and who wanted to marry me, gets to move on with his perfect life and leave me gasping for air. My chest literally hurts just to think of it. Even worse when I get overwhelmed and cry.
I am sorry to write such horribly depressing things. And I am sorry that I come across as ungrateful for the wonderful things in my life - a roof over my head, plenty of food to each (even on a "broke" grad student budget), a loving family (despite its flaws), a research assistant position, somewhat affordable education, another job, a car, and a handful of truly wonderful friends (including blogging friends)... I know I am not completely deprived.
I just feel like my heart will never ever recover from this, that I can never trust anyone with my heart - it makes me not want to ever try to find love, to have children, to be around people who are in love... I have no idea how to reconcile the fact that I know, as a person, I need a companion, but the thought of ever going through this again is enough to turn me off to everything. How does someone whose very livelihood depend on companionship prepare themselves for a life of being alone? And I know that everyone will say, you have to learn from this, there is someone, somewhere who will love you unconditionally and so strongly that none of this will matter in the end. Well, the fact is that I do not believe that for a second. Sure there are people who break up, get divorced, and find love again - but no one admits to the fact that there are also a ton of people who never find anyone else! That chance at love was the one, there is not going to be another. Then what?
Sorry for rambling on and on. Hopefully this awful feeling that keeps my appetite at bay will stick around long enough for me to lost some serious pounds in the next month or so. I am consistently between 130.something and 131.something every morning. I plan to start running again tomorrow or Monday, mainly because I know the endorphins help and being lazy disgusts me. I should have been down to 118 ages ago, its embarrassing.
Thank you for checking in on me, those of you who have. And just for kicks, I have a few pictures from the weekend...

Feeling lost

I feel completely lost right now. I have not told anyone because I do not want people to be worried about me. At least I can write it here and know that at the very least one person might read it and send a positive thought or a prayer my way.
Weight wise, I'm sitting between 129-130.something for the past week. I am actually somewhat grateful, considering I have been under some stress and have sort of just been scrounging whatever I can find to eat and neglecting my food journal. I still have seven yoga classes left, which is good, because I have not been running much. I think my body needed a break after running almost daily for 11 months. I am having some odd intercostal chest muscle pain (the muscles in between your ribs) that will not seem to go away. On Sunday, I had a great run - 6.3 miles in 53 min, not too shabby for more than six weeks off. But since then I have not felt in the right place to run. I think I am just going to enjoy what is left of my yoga classes and pick back up with a serious running regimen when I return from my Seattle trip.
I am not sure if I mentioned that around here, but I had a ticket to visit Juan for next weekend, but my younger brother kindly paid for me to change it to come visit him in Seattle (he is in the Navy and stationed there). So, next Friday I leave for a long weekend.
And one more piece of news... Before I go away, I am starting a new job at a law firm in town. It's an office assistant position of 9+ hours per week in the afternoons before I have to be in class. The job is very well matched for my needs, and while I was the last candidate interviewed yesterday, the office manager offered me the position on the spot. I called her a few minutes ago to accept and start next week.
The local yarn store is also looking to hire me, hopefully for a day or two per week or on the weekends. I just need to piece together a few odd jobs and pick up some babysitting to be able to make it through the summer. I finished my first piece for my Etsy store - which once it is truly up and running, I will post the link here in case anyone wants to browse - but have a hat and a little cowl to finish for my brother and mother before I knit more things for the shop. I asked my grandmother to invest in my shop, and she lent me $100 to buy yarn. Hopefully, with my busy school schedule I can find time to do all of this. School is already busier than last semester and my research assistant position is more demanding too.
Sometimes I feel like a chicken running around with my head cut off. I miss feeling secure and like I had someone who I could depend on for absolutely anything.

Juan broke up with me via Skype on Sunday night.
I feel sick. And broken. And ruined.
I feel sick. And broken. And ruined.
Drama
I have a bunch of family drama going on right now. My parents have decided to cut me off financially (which is fine, I'm 24, and it's not like they were paying my rent or anything - they offered to cover my car insurance while I am in school and I'm a few months behind on my cell phone bill) and essentially emotionally.
I feel like my family just broke up with me.
Didn't run yesterday or today. I'm sluggish, sad, and I strained part of my right leg anyway.
This feels exactly like when Juan broke up with me all that time ago. They've totally broken me and I don't know who I am now.
FML.
At least I was 133.2 this morning. Weight loss will be the only good thing to come of this.
To clarify - my mother and I have not been getting along well lately. Both of us are quite stubborn and don't like to be wrong. I however, accept that there is more than one point of view in this world and that my parents have different views than I do. My mother told me yesterday that the thinks I am completely selfish and using my parents. I was just home for the weekend and she EXPLODED at me on my way out the door when I said that I didn't think it was that cold outside. She says I contradict everything she says and I am spoiled. She constantly tells me I need to humble myself.
What this boils down to is my mom, in my entire life, a. is always right, b. never apologizes, and c. never makes an effort to calmly address problems when they are small. She waits for a whole pile of issue to accrue and then a huge arguments ensues.
Here is the email I sent her, after not contacting her for a few days following Saturday morning's fight because I didn't know what to say:
Sarah,
I am accepting your rejection as your solution to our problem. I will not try again to contact you. I feel utterly used by you, as does your father. You assumed he would pay for and do your oil change and did not even offer to repay him for the cost of the oil etc. There will no longer be any financial support coming your way. I am done with sacrificing for your comfort. I get the $16 haircut to be able to send you money and you get the $50 cut. Something is wrong here and it will stop. You are not entitled to anything. We support you out of love for you, but it's time for tough love. I will not be paying your car insurance or your phone bill anymore. If you do not send the $48 or whatever it is each month, we will take your phone off of our account. You owe us $980 and we expect to be paid. Installments are fine, but you need to start settling your debt.
If and when you have a change of heart and can humble yourself for once, we can talk. Otherwise, I really have nothing to say that will change the situation.
Mom
I then proceeded to call her to try and figure out what is going on. As for the issues mentioned in the email, specifically the oil change - I asked my dad how much money I owed him and he said he'd look at the the receipts (mind you he had offered to change it when I came home for Thanksgiving). He never told me and went to work for two days and I did not see him before I returned to school. As for the haircut. My mom has short hair too - she gets her hair cut every 4-6 weeks for $16. Thats approximately 8 times per year, totaling approximately $130. I get mine cut every 12-14 weeks even with short hair at $40 a cut. That's 4 times per year at $160. I don't really see a huge difference there. As for the car insurance, my parents offered to pay it while I was in school and I gladly accepted and have been thankful. My parents lent me half of the money for my security deposit ($980) that I told my mom I would pay back ASAP. I told her a few weeks ago I would write a check for some of it, and I kind of forgot. I apologized for not sending it sooner, but I sent them a check yesterday for the whole thing. I also sent them the voided original check I had written and put in an envelope three days ago. Anyway, my mom just kept telling me that I am selfish and ungrateful and stubborn and that I am doing all of these things wrong. The only two things that my mom has any right to be on my case about is that I a. have not found a church to attend down here and b. I do give my family a hard time about their really unhealthy diets. Most of you know that I am a vegan. My parents eat really unhealthily and are both very overweight - my older brother who still lives at home, is too. I have tried to be nice and encouraging in the past, but it doesn't do anything. I am worried that both of my parents will die due to obesity-related issues and no one seems to care but me. I tried to explain to her that I don't expect them to financially support me and have been very thankful. I also don't think that doing nice things for someone gives you the reason to try and control them. She can't make my choices for me and in general I think I live a life that makes my parents proud. Then she hung up on me and I sent my dad a flurry of Facebook messages.
I also need to say that when I am doing something wrong, the time to tell me is when it is happening in a calm way instead of waiting for a ton of stuff to pile up and then explode, which is what mom always does. I can remember a handful of times when mom has threatened to leave our family and not be our mother anymore because she is over the edge. I remember telling Heather Lundon that my mom was going to leave our family and she gave me her lunch money because she thought I would be poor! Instead of waiting for things to get to this point, why can't we just discuss it like adults. Mom never asked if her check was in the mail, which honestly, I sort of forgot about until last week (and I wrote a check when I got home, which you will see when you get it in the mail). Mom never asked me about church until the email she finally wrote me when I didn't speak to her for a month. She never asked me for money for my cell phone, not even once. She says I don't need an expensive phone, and that's fine, but this is the first time I have ever heard her say that. She never said that she's feeling stressed or finds me self-centered and inconsiderate. She never mentioned that is was difficult for her to afford the car insurance (that she offered to pay for, I didn't ask, and I have been very thankful that you were paying it). I do not live an extravagant lifestyle. She just explodes. How am I supposed to react to that? And when she explodes, of course I immediately go into defense mode. Wouldn't you? She says I am never wrong, well we are awfully similar. Are arguments continue because we don't see eye to eye and neither of us believes that we are wrong. The only way I am different is that most of the time, I can at least see where mom is coming from since I understand her strict values. When it comes to all of this stuff, since this is the first I am hearing of it, I do have a hard time validating her anger.
So now you all have a better idea of what is going on. It's a total mess. My mom is just being totally irrational and hurtful. I feel completely heart broken that my parents think I am so awful and such a disappointment. And my dad and brother will always back up my mom. She's never wrong. The whole thing is just crazy.

I know you told mom that I didn't offer to pay for my oil/filter. That isn't true. I asked you how much and you said you'd look at the receipt and let me know, then you went to work for two days and I didn't hear anything about it. I didn't expect you to change it, you offered. Tell me how much I owe you and I will write you a check. Please try to mail that book today. It's expensive and I do not have the extra money to buy a new one for the library.
I am beyond frustrated with my parents saying that I am ungrateful, spoiled, and have a bad attitude. I was nothing but helpful when I came home for Thanksgiving. Yes, I owe you and mom money, but she said I could pay it in installments and I had a check written and in an envelope. I voided it and am sending the full amount. Additionally, as I have explained to mom many times, I have no problem paying my cell phone bill or car insurance, she offered to pay the insurance and REFUSES to let me know when my bill is due. I gave her a bunch of stuff to sell on ebay over the past year that has covered my bill and she has not mentioned it until today. As soon as I can I will get off the family plan and besides the fact that the car belongs to you and I am still on your health insurance, I will not owe you any more money. I will find out how much the insurance is through my school and get on that or just have you drop me altogether. Mom complains about me being entitled and I think its unfair to offer to help someone and then constantly harp on them or think you can control them. I left in a flurry on Saturday morning because mom was screaming at me, and contrary to what she insists, she told me that I had to leave. Therefore, I left two towels and Lulu's dishes in my room. I'm sorry for leaving them, I forgot as I was rushing out the door. Mom says she has to make sacrifices like haircuts for me. Mom gets her hair cut every 4-6 weeks at $16. I get a $40 hair cut every 14 weeks. She insists that I will never admit that I am wrong, but I don't see how I am here. Every argument turns into this huge melting pot of 100 issues that get dragged up. I can't handle it.
Instead of trying to encourage me in my life, she wants the satisfaction of me admitting my every defeat. I don't think that is a loving attitude. She doesn't remember what she says to me when we argue and insists that I put words in her mouth. The ONLY legitimate argument that she has here is that I haven't found a church yet. And instead of simply asking me about it in a rational way, she drags it into an argument which makes me push back.
As soon as I am physically able, I will be completely financially independent. I won't visit unless I am invited, and you won't have to worry about my personal life whatsoever. Since every decision I make is apparently wrong in your eyes, its not worth discussing.
I am sorry for being such a disappointment.
I was wrong in not paying you back sooner and for not keeping track of my bills.
I was wrong in not giving you the money for the filter.
I was wrong in not finding a church already.
And additionally, I concede that I am wrong in the way I express my disapproval of what you eat. As I tried to explain to mom, to no avail, I have tried to encourage you to eat healthy and no one seems to care. I consider your physical health something that is pretty important. Recently I have been critical, and that isn't good.
I could care less about being cut off financially. I'll figure it out and it's just part of adult life. That's no big deal. I do care, however, that my parents think I am so manipulative and evil as to "use" them and essentially want to cut me out of their lives emotionally. I disagree that my behavior has ever warranted such a thing. I'm not perfect, but neither are the two of you. I don't know what else I need to apologize for the two of you to be satisfied here. If you want me to admit defeat, I have. My attitude, that mom is so unhappy with, is an attitude of gratitude and hard work. I work hard in school and try to live a good life to please you. I am not ungrateful for what I have and where I am. Me disagreeing about the temperature, trying to get you to eat healthier, and forgetting about my phone bill do not negate that. I am amazed that all of the good things I have done at your daughter apparently mean nothing to you. You have officially wounded me to the core, which I hope was not your intention. I have always taken great comfort in the fact that my family is loving and supportive. Right now, this "tough love" that you cite is not love at all. It is manipulation. You have emotionally broken me. You win. If you want to discuss this further and not let it remain this way, feel free to contact me. I will not be reaching out except to tie up the loose ends of my finances. I cannot handle the emotional stress of this every day.

So my head is completely all over the place. I'm not even sure where to begin and how to organize this, but I promise to try.
School So, as you know, I was accepted to Columbia. I was also accepted to Tufts and am waiting to hear form George Mason. Columbia is certainly the best school of the three, but as of yesterday, I found out the only aid I was given to attend was federal loans. Unfortunately, I cannot justify borrowing 60-some-odd-thousand dollars to finance this education. I was on the phone with admissions and financial aid and they have offered me nothing - no scholarship, no research or teaching assistantship. As you can imagine, I felt pretty crushed yesterday. I was all weepy with Juan on the phone, naturally, and felt really bummed the rest of the day. I cannot make a final decision about whether or not I go to school at all until I have heard from Tufts and GMU, but at this point it is looking unlikely. Oh, and for Eeshie, an MPH is a Masters in Public Health. I want to study epidemiology, which is the study of how diseases move across populations (i.e. studying epidemic outbreaks like cholera in Haiti or the swine flu or whatever as well as trends in diseases, like HIV/AIDS, obesity, etc.) Ultimately, I want to work for an international government agency or non-profit on HIV/AIDS and other disease prevention measures with mothers and babies in developing nations. We'll see...
Work I quit my job at the animal hospital! My last day is officially the 19th because on the 20th I am leaving with the team for their training trip in South Carolina (hello sunshine and getting paid!) I am really excited about this position and I hope it transitions into something bigger and perhaps more permanent. The school hired me just for their season, which is until the middle of May, but they found out that I was a public speaking teacher in graduate school and they are looking for someone to help with their public speaking curriculum. The great thing about a private school is that you honestly do not need a masters degree to teach there. I really hope they decide to use me in other ways than just with the crew team.
Gym On Tuesday I absolutely crushed it. I ran two miles and then killed myself at back-to-back bursting classes. According to my heart monitor, I burned 1238 calories, which is kind of crazy. Yesterday, I could barely move because I was so sore, so I took a rest day. Today, I ran a 5k before my class and managed to burn over 800 calories according to my monitor. Tomorrow, I will just do my class in the morning.
Friends So the lovely Cinnamon sent me a care package! A while back I mailed her some tea and lucky me, I received the cutest package in the mail yesterday!

First of all, the envelope was covered in totally fun stamps - brightly colored fish and birds. Inside, everything was wrapped so nicely - a postcard, some tea, a bracelet and charm, and some lovely hand knitted slippers and mitts! Thank you my dear :)
Weight Thank you all so much for your encouraging comments on my photos (that I was insanely nervous to post). I am trying to work extra hard on cutting back my calorie intake - yesterday I tried to fast but failed since I was crazy stressed out. I am going to stick to a bit of oatmeal (with almond milk, a few raisins, and a spoonful of Better'n Peanut Butter - it's 1/2 the calories) and vegetables for dinner. After the gym I was 132.0. I am working hard for 129. I can do it again, right?
Anyway, thank you to anyone who took the time to read all of that. I left a few comments this morning and I'm off to give some more while I eat my oatmeal. Have a lovely day my darlings...
Fasting until Saturday?

There is no way I am going to be 3-4 pounds lighter tomorrow. I definitely have to fast today and tomorrow, but seriously, I am sabotaging myself. I was supposed to be 125 by the time I cut my hair, then I compromised with 129, well, there's no way. Fasting is definitely in order.
For those of you who asked about my new hairstyle...
I am pretty nervous, I have hair down to the middle of my back now. I would post a picture, but honestly, I am too embarrassed with the way I look right now. I know I am doing a good thing by donating it, but it is still scary at the moment. I know once it is all off I will feel fine and completely motivated to stop putting food in my gluttonous mouth.
I really hope there is some sort of miracle today and between the gym, hydrating, and staying away from food, that I can be more comfortable. How did I let myself gain again? I vowed never to be over 130.
I think I am going to go to the gym early for an hour of cardio (on the elliptical, since I still cannot run on account of my foot), my class, and an extra set or two of the weight circuit. I know I have been lifting weights quite often now, so some of my gain might be on account of that, but honestly, my body is looking fatter, not leaner, so I know it's not a good enough excuse.
Update... I did half an hour on the elliptical before class, then the 45 minute bursting class, which totally kicked my ass this morning. My arms and legs felt like jelly afterward, so I did not return to the elliptical or lift at all. I wish I wasn't so weak and could pump out two hours at the gym. Anyway, I have been drinking lots - water, tea, almond milk - and had homemade carrot/sweet potato soup for lunch. I know that it is low in calories and filling, so I think it is a good choice for fasting. I am going to make it through tonight on more soup (lentil maybe?) and tea. I can totally handle this.

My weight is up again - too embarrassing to post. I feel terribly about myself and I couldn't run yesterday because of my stupid foot. My mom thinks it is a stress fracture.
Luckily, I am going to the gym this morning, even though it snowed last night and the roads are crappy. I need to burn off some of this gross fat that is plaguing my body.
No solid food today. No solid food until I am properly down to 128.
Sorry for the grumpy post, I just feel like crap today.
Thank you for the positive comments yesterday - I will get my lame bum to commenting when I return fro the gym.

Work is super slow today, so I am sneakily giving you all an update from our freezing office (the heat is currently broken so we're all wearing our coats inside!)
Not so great on the weight front... 127.0 after my run, which means I must have been a lot higher before (128.something?). There is no way I'm going to be 125 on Friday. I want to be hopeful, but I just don't think it's going to happen. I am trying girls, I promise.
I ran 4.8 miles again today (yesterday was too bitter cold and windy) in 12 degree weather in 43 minutes. I am steadily increasing my mileage, which is great.
I am going to feel awful is I don't see 125 on Friday. I set this goal for Thanksgiving and didn't make it. And now Juan is going to be here and I will have failed him too? :( I swear I am trying. I skipped breakfast and had a salad for lunch (romaine, grapefruit, 1/2 avocado, a spoonful of hummus, 1T dried cranberries, vinegar and a bit of EVOO - gee that sounds like a lot now) and I am set with caffeine and herbal teas for while I am at work. Tonight, my brother is bringing home sushi for dinner for a family dinner (it's his birthday) and I asked for seaweed salad and an avocado roll. Tomorrow, I wll run in the morning and likely not eat anything until dinner again - I made plans to go out for sushi with my friends on Sunday but canceled because I was fasting. So we re-scheduled for tomorrow (before I knew about tonight's dinner plans) so I'll have a cucumber roll and an avocado roll or a cucumber roll and miso? But all of that salt will make me heavier tomorrow and even worse on Friday, right?
I will comment tonight when I am home from work. I have to go back and catch up on yesterday's posts too. I love you all.
Oh, and Cinnamon and Alice D, I bought LOTS of that tea yesterday :) Please send me your addresses (sshoemaker AT hotmail DOT com) and I will send you each a little variety pack... I bought the Sugar Cookie, Nutcracker Sweet, Sugar Plum, Gingerbread annnnnnd Candy Cane Lane to share!
One last thing, Bonesarepure, I haven't forgotten about dairy free recipes for you! I promise I will post some soon!!
Just read this article... very interesting!

Knockout invited me to fast with her today.
I had dinner plans to grab sushi with friends tonight, but I already texted my one friend to say that I was not feeling well and would not be attending.
I am beginning at a horrifically high weight (128.8) and I will not even drink anything until I get home from church and go for a run. It is currently pouring outside, so I may run on the treadmill (yuck!). Actually, I may just bundle up in my raincoat and old shoes and run in the rain. Running in the rain is cathartic and makes me feel even more accomplished.
I am so sorry for a) being mopey and b) letting everyone down. Just the other day, someone commented that they thought the photo of my collar bone was thinspirational. ME! And now, look at me. Gaining. I have to get to 125 before Friday. I just have to.
When I get home, maybe I'll search for some new thinspo for a bit and make a nice long post. I need to get it together. 128. SERIOUSLY, WHAT IS HAPPENING???
Update: I really don't want to run now. The weather is simply dreadful. I am currently drinking a gigantic mug of tea and I had one singular saltine (and holy communion this morning in church). After I finish my tea, I'll see how I feel and maybe I'll get out there. I normally love running, but now that I am in an overall bad mood and have lower energy, I do not think it is going to happen today.
Update: I broke my fast at about 9:45pm (more than 24 hours) with a small spinach salad with 2T hummus and spicy tomatoes (no dressing). I really hope I'm back down to 126-127 tomorrow. Pray for me.

Really bad
I was doing so well the past two weeks. Just on the verge of 125. Now, I've messed everything up with three days of disgusting eating. Cookies. Fried zucchini. FML.
I just got on the scale (the end of the day) and I saw 131.4. My eyes totally welled up with tears. Juan will be here in 6 days and I have failed so miserably. Tomorrow, I have to run at least five miles, no matter what the weather. I am so disgusted and disappointed with myself.
I know I said fasts work better not as punishment, but I can't think of anything else for tomorrow. I need to not eat until I see lower lower numbers.
I hope everyone else is having a better weekend :(
